Where Children Thrive

Our Philosophy

Village Nursery School was founded in 1972 at First United Methodist Church West Lafayette, IN, based on the belief that young children thrive in an environment that promotes purposeful and productive play. We incorporate Zoo-phonics, Handwriting Without Tears, Minds In Motion in our curriculum, with programs available for children ages 1-5 years. Our thoughtfully planned activities, along with our choice of educational toys and materials, create a supportive learning atmosphere that lays the groundwork for children’s academic success. Each week features changing themes that expose children to a variety of engaging topics, aiming to enhance their vocabulary and general knowledge. Throughout their time at Village, culminating in our Pre-K class, children are well-equipped for kindergarten. We take pride in the achievements of our “alumni”, and believe that a good early foundation sets up children for years of success. Our aim is to develop independent, self-confident, and curious learners who work well with others. In addition to receiving a strong foundation in pre-reading and math, VNS children learn important social skills, such as singing together, engaging in discussions, taking turns with the weather chart and calendar, and listening to stories. They also practice completing tasks, following multi-step directions, waiting their turn to speak, and being responsible for their school supplies.

Hands On Experiences

From science experiments to farm animal visits; field trips to cooking; community helper's visits and more, we encourage children to engage in hands on learning experiences.

Family Involvement Nights

Creating a Village means engaging families, and we love our Family Activities such as our Family Halloween Party, Pre K Christmas Concert, Family Movie Nights, and Pre K Art Night.

Multi-Disciplinary Learning

Teachers use classroom themes to engage students in multi-disciplinary learning by linking literature, art , science , math, and music projects, as well as engaging dramatic play centers. Children learn through tactile, visual, vestibular, and auditory methods.

A Note from our Director

With a professional background in Child Development, I came to VNS as a parent looking for a play based preschool that would help prepare my oldest socially, give him the structure of a school environment, and help him to find the joy in learning. Two more kids and four years later, I had the opportunity to teach at VNS, and this has been my professional home for the last 8 years. I love working with children and families and believe the preschool years are an important time to prepare socially, emotionally, and educationally for a lifetime love of learning.
At Village Nursery School, the safety and well-being of your child is our top priority. Our facilities are designed to meet the highest safety standards, and our staff is trained to ensure a secure and healthy environment for all children. We understand the trust you place in us, and we take that responsibility very seriously. We also strive to create an environment where children are safe to explore new skills and concepts with encouraging adults.
